THE SOIL. THE ORIGIN OF EVERYTHING. THE ESSENCE. Our beings stem from the soil, a principle that we have ever present. We cherish, we respect and we labour the soil in a meticulous and constant manner.
Our 15 hectares of vines are located 700 METERS ABOVE SEA LEVEL and the VINEYARDS THRIVE FROM A COMBINATION OF LOW RAINFALL, HIGH TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIALS BETWEEN DAYTIME AND NIGHT-TIME, AND AMPLE SUNSHINE.
Our estates L'ESPORGADA, ELS LLINARS, EL PLA D’EN MAS, LA VINYA DELS ARTISTES, EL SENILL, MAS BLANCH AND ST. JOAN located in the town of La Pobla de Cérvoles, Lleida in the wine region of COSTERS DEL SEGRE. A mountainous ecosystem with strong Mediterranean influences neighbouring the Priorat and Monsant wine regions.
OUR TERRAIN IS ARGILLACEOUS, chalky and poor in organic components, limiting our grape production to only 3.500 Kg per hectare and thereby resulting in a superior concentration of sugars and polyphenols. We make our wine from grapes from our own ECOLOGICAL plantations, HARVESTED SOLELY BY HAND AT THEIR OPTIMAL MOMENT OF RIPENESS. This is how we have always done it, from conviction and because we can’t see any reason to do it differently. However, from the harvest 2014 onwards we have been officially recognised as ecological producers and given the CPAE certificate to attest to that fact. We have also attained the SUSTAINABILITY certificate from the DO Costers del Segre.
For this reason, the grape varieties we cultivate – RED GRENACHE, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, SYRAH, TEMPRANILLO, MERLOT, WHITE GRENACHE, MACABEO and VIOGNIER – offer very distinct characteristics and are of exceptional quality.
Our wines are called SAÓ, a word that speaks of the earth and that means “MATURITY, PERFECTION AND OPTIMAL HUMIDITY” in the local Catalan language.
We strive to unearth this uniqueness in each of our bottles because we like our wine to embody the finest elements of its birthplace.
