The wine produced belongs to the Costers del Segre Designation of Origin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wine trip through the lands of Lleida<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The vines are grown on calcareous terrain, in a continental Mediterranean climate with cold winters and hot summers.<\/p>\n<p>See the website of the Associaci\u00f3 Ruta del Vi de Lleida wine route association. There you will find all of the latest news about the wineries as well as a careful selection of restaurants and accommodation in the area.<\/p>\n<p>A visit to a winery could be the perfect excuse to discover some of the seven production subzones of the DO: the Segri\u00e0, Raimat, Artesa de Segre, l\u2019Urgell, Pallars Juss\u00e0, the Valleys of Riucorb and les Garrigues.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can see how excellent organic wine can be produced. You will be able to see how they carefully harvest their own grapes to make the wine and how they are self-sufficient thanks to their own sustainable agricultural exploitations (of corn, barley, alfalfa&#8230;) that feed their pigs, cows, etc. Ah, and don\u2019t forget to taste their oil, which is pressed right there.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the area\u2019s wineries, like others, will open their doors to you after the summer so that you can take part in the grape harvest. This traditional event is celebrated in the surrounding towns and villages. Because they are at different altitudes and depending on the weather during the summer, it might start in August and end in October-November.<\/p>\n<p>One tip. Go and visit the designation of origin\u2019s highest vineyards, at 1,000 m. There\u2019s a winery there that has a curious way of fermenting wine. They use Stone vats dating from the 12th century. If you taste them, you\u2019ll notice that they are more aromatic.<\/p>\n<p>And did you know that there are wineries that get the wine from between the stones?
